The Ivens Hotel, Lisbon

The Ivens Hotel

The Ivens Hotel was home to the first luxury warehouse in the city in the XIX century as well as of the first Portuguese public. The iconic building is in every way representative of the XIX century, a period which has marked the spirit and culture of Lisbon. The hotel has 87 unique and comfortable rooms, of which ten are spacious suites including two signature top floor suites. The entrance was mapped to resemble the journey of Ivens and Capelo, two of greatest Portuguese explorers to unveil Africa back on the XIX century. The hotel holds three cinematic dining areas designed by Lázaro Rosa Violan who offer a journey through Italian cuisine, al fresco dining and a "Barra" area.

“The location is great, but I was not a huge fan of this hotel. My "city view room" was a first floor room that looked directly into the wall of another building. I felt like I was treated as a child compared to guests that were older, maybe they assumed I was not a big spender because of my age. The rooms were nice enough and the beds were comfortable, but the service was off-putting to say the least. La ubicación es excelente, pero no era un gran admirador de este hotel. Mi "habitación con vistas a la ciudad" era una habitación en el primer piso que daba directamente a la pared de otro edificio. Sentí que me trataban como a un niño en comparación con los huéspedes mayores, tal vez asumieron que no gastaba mucho debido a mi edad. Las habitaciones eran lo suficientemente agradables y las camas eran cómodas, pero el servicio fue desagradable por decir lo menos.”

“Great ambiance, but this hotel has a lot to fix… service was poor from both the F&B outlets as well as the reception on some occasions, F&B overall quality was far below acceptable. Cool rooms and nice decor, although very small — hotel did not honor full Marriott Bonvoy benefits. Many other good options in town, I would avoid this one for the moment.”
